At the beginning of this project, I started to listen to bluegrass non-stop and I was researching the history of bluegrass. My goal for this project was to try to capture the feeling of bluegrass through the typeface. One thing I gravitated towards bluegrass was that each song is like a conversation and I love how you can hear each different string instrument. I was also entertained by the lyrics of each and I liked how each singer stretches out their words.

As I started to sketch out ideas for the bluegrass alphabet I decided to use string to follow the idea of the string instruments and I also wanted some of the letters to be thicker than other ones to make them look fun and playful like some of the songs I heard.
